Ability to add friends and see what shows they’ve been watching lately, or take a look at their most played favorites

If you find a show in common with a friend, you can start a chat thread, maybe post a character quiz to their wall, or just leave a “like” to let them know you’re a fellow fan

Automatically syncs to your streaming platforms so that it always knows what you’ve been into lately

Leave ratings on shows you’ve watched, or even write your own reviews for your friends to see

Your TV profile helps you broadcast your tastes and start a dialogue with others who share your interests (or perhaps those who strongly disagree)

How can we bring connections into the TV… If everyone had a TV profile, it would be more of an intuitive, consistent space to share and engage in shows. Independent platform…could help people in dating situations.

Such a profile is similar to the XBOX profile and badges mechanism on XBOX.

Allows users to annotate their favorite shows with text, video, and multimedia comments

Like Insta “stories” for TV

Record a video reaction on your phone and post it to the show’s timeline

Friends and followers who watch that show can see your commentary wherever you left it

Follow your favorite comedians to see what jokes they’ve posted to the newest episode

This app would add value to the TV watching experience by allowing you to directly interact with the content you’re watching

With Say What?, even a mediocre show can be entertaining if you follow the right people!

Explore points of interest based on content from your shows

Platform would use a combination of deep learning and human curation to decipher content cues in order to encourage users to explore the real-life version of what’s on screen

See content-driven recommendations for food, entertainment, and shopping while you watch

Say you’ve been binging Mad Men. Fire up the Beyond the Scenes plug-in and see a list of the top whiskey bars in your city.

Or, perhaps you see a dress during your favorite drama that really catches your eye. Check out Beyond the Scenes and find out what designer is credited.

Beyond the Scenes helps to translate the on-screen to the off-screen, so that you can add an extra dimension to your viewing experience

How many people Tweeted or even liked this specific scene? Producers of the show get direct feedback of which scenes of the show were the audience's favorite! 

Do Food Network shows make you hungry? Beyond the Scenes can recommend a close BBQ joint

Added Information… modernizing the Behind the Scenes footage, live data collecting based on region (Amazon X-ray feature), connecting people to your area and gives feedback.. Mad Men- pops up local restaurants serving cool cocktails. Advertising! Adding real time interest to get people off the couch and out into the world.

This can include organized “Watch Parties Behind the Scenes” where producers of the show can organize a time they will be a particular location that they filmed out and they can hang out with the fans. 

Hello, we are Alex, Kelli, Mark, and Tsai and we want to introduce you to Watch Party. We all grew up gathering around TV with family and friends. Watching something was an activity we did together and talked about with the people around us.

 Establish current TV behaviors (that we are targeting) -NY Times: avg adult 5 hours a day TV 

- While most of those hours used to be spent gathered around with friends or family watching live TV, the advent of streaming media, such as Netflix, Hulu and Youtube, millennials now only watch about one hour of TV per day with other people. The other four hours are spent alone.

Watching television has become a very independent experience, despite us living in a world where technology has increased the ways we can interact. Now that we can watch virtually anything we want at any time the TV watching experience has become very personalized -- but a little isolating. People increasingly watch TV alone and--aside from their day-to-day personal relationships--there aren’t natural pathways to talk about that experience and share enjoyment of this very thing that a lot of people have in common. 

Slide Purpose: Sum up the problem. Watching TV is currently a lonely experience...even though the technology exists to connect us in more ways than ever.

When we surveyed the people in our lives, these are some of the wishes we found -- People want to interact MORE  while watching TV. They also want more ways to connect with friends that live far away. When they are watching TV, we found that people engaged with social media during live TV events - especially Twitter. And we found that people also often had a secondary activity going on their phone while watching.

Our goal is to inspire human interaction through digital interests. We want people to enjoy TV together -- even when they watch it apart.  Our goal is to revitalize the communal elements that helped launch television into astronomic popularity (once upon a time) to create the ultimate forum for TV lovers to connect and engage with content.

This is who our customer targets are. Pat is a TV lover and he can’t get enough. His biggest concern when it comes to TV is what can I watch next??? He is looking to get as much as he possibly can out of his favorite pastime and to share his insights with other people on his level. On the other side is Alex -- our typical casual TV viewer. She enjoys TV fairly regularly, but it’s not a priority in her life. When she does watch, she wants to watch something REALLY good. She also wishes she could watch more things that the people she cares about are watching, without having to try to hard. Mark’s going to walk us through some of the feedback we got from our Pat’s and Alex’s.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the characteristics of our target audience

In the behavioral survey we conducted, we discovered three key trends that helped to drive our solution

The first trend we confirmed is that people love talking about TV. Wasn’t a big surprise, but the data backs it up

More interestingly, respondents also generally enjoy making and receiving recommendations for new shows to watch

The second trend we analyzed in our survey data is that respondents struggle to keep track of everything their friends watch

Unlike a hobby with limited options, sports for instance, there are thousands of TV shows

It’s unreasonable to expect your friends to remember all of the different shows you follow

The third key trend we found in our data was that respondents enjoy making TV commentary, jokes, and banter

But, existing social media platforms don’t seem to satisfy the needs of those people.

Only 25% of those surveyed reported that they use social media to engage with others about TV shows

So there’s a desired behavior, but no appropriate medium to encourage it

Taking those three trends into consideration, our group landed on this solution:

The main objectives for our solution are:

1) allow users to connect with their network, easily track their viewing habits and share that history with friends

2) enable the creation of contextualized TV commentary, and the ability to browse that user content

And 3) encourage the discovery of insights and recommendations based on the user’s viewing habits and activity

I’m gonna walk you through some key features of the Watch Party app

The first is the ability to sync with your streaming services to effortlessly track viewing history in real time

You can then choose what part of that history to display on your public profile

Next we have Multimedia Commentary: the ability to post comments, videos, rankings, and even reviews.

This commentary can be attached to a show, a specific season, or even directly to an episode’s timeline, creating a truly contextualized commentary experience

Finally, the Watch Party platform will learn your TV preferences and, over time, suggest new shows, content, and profiles to follow based on what it knows you like

The first screen shows the Watch Party newsfeed. See who’s watching what, what commentary they’ve created and shared, and suggestions based on your trends.

Any posts from your friends, comedians, or famous personalities you follow will populate as you scroll

Let’s say you’re watching the new GOT episode, and you have a truly hot take that you need to share with your network,

To post, tap the + button on the bottom bar and it will pull up the content menu. Choose what kind of media you want to post and then compose or record that media on the next screen

Once you’re happy with your post, tag where you want to attach your new content and you’re all set

Soon enough, your friends will see that post in their feed

Don’t be alarmed when they start downvoting your ridiculous predictions

This is where you can view and curate your viewing activity, see content that you’ve uploaded or shared, and manage your friends list

You can even start private message threads and chat rooms themed around specific shows, or just to have a quiet place to interact
